Hari Srinivasan, one of our Jeena Teens (dx with Autism), won a National Gold Award in 2009 from Scholastic Inc, for his personal essay.
Hari and the other winners attended a grand awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York, and it included celebrities like Tony Kushner, Jesse Eisenberg and Paul Giamatti.
There were over 140,000 entries that year and the top 50 of these were published by Scholastic in their book “The Best of Teen Writing 2009”. The book has a forward written by Nobel Peace Laureate, Elie Wiesel.
