Jeena, Inc recognized as 2011 Diwali Community Beneficiary

CUPERTINO, CA- The Diwali Festival Planning Committee recognized Jeena, Inc today, as this years’ Diwali Community Beneficiary. As a beneficiary, Jeena will receive a portion of the sales made at the Diwali Festival, up to a $2,000 donation to go to the organization and help with their mission.
Jeena is a self-help group of parents dedicated to improving the quality of life of parents and children with developmental disorders. Founded in April 2000, Jeena is the first not-for-profit organization focused on the specific cultural needs of families from South-East Asia, here in the Bay Area. Currently Jeena focuses on project both in the Silicon Valley and in India.
“One of the key needs of teens with Autism is social appropriateness and as these teens mature, it is essential they learn basic money management and appropriate social skills,” said Rajni Madan co-founder of Jeena. “This grant will partially fund this program and enable Jeena to offer this program to more teens and families.”
Every year the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce presents a Diwali Festival of Lights, which brings together over 10,000 people from the community to gather for a day of family fun and celebration. This year, the Diwali Festival of Lights will be held on Saturday October 8, 2011 at Memorial Park in Cupertino. In combination with the Festival, the Chamber also selects a Community Beneficiary to receive up to a $2,000 donation from the Diwali Festival to go towards a community project.
“We were looking for a worthy cause to choose as a beneficiary,” said Mahesh Nihalani, Chair of the 2011 Diwali Festival. “We are happy to recognize Jeena as this year’s beneficiary and the wonderful work they do for families here in the Bay Area.”
